Shanghai's first baby born after resuscitation of vitrified frozen eggs
Recently, Shanghai's first baby resuscitated by vitrified frozen eggs was born healthy through the assistance of the Reproductive Medicine Center of Ruijin Hospital. Currently, a total of 10 couples have performed assisted reproductive cycles with resuscitated egg and embryo transfer at the center, and three of them have successfully conceived. The method of vitrification, freezing and reviving eggs is a very feasible new method of assisted reproduction, which can help more infertile couples with different situations to have children.
In June last year, 29-year-old Xiao Yang and 26-year-old Xiao Li, who came to Shanghai from Zhejiang to work, came to the Reproductive Medicine Center of Ruijin Hospital for examination because they were infertile without contraception after three years of marriage. At that time, it was discovered that the man had mild asthenia and the woman had bilateral fallopian tube blockage. After screening, she entered the center for in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer treatment cycle. Xiao Li retrieved 24 eggs 15 days after ovulation induction, but because the man was too nervous, he tried many times on the day of egg retrieval and was unable to retrieve the semen. After consultation with the couple, the staff of the Reproductive Medicine Center decided to freeze the eggs and resuscitate the eggs for insemination after the man retrieves the sperm.
In order to increase the recovery rate of frozen eggs, the staff of the Reproductive Medicine Center cryopreserved Xiao Li’s eggs using the world’s emerging vitrification method, and a total of 21 mature eggs were cryopreserved. At the end of December last year, under the guidance of a doctor, Xiao Li took artificial estrogen and progesterone to prepare the endometrium. On the simulated ovulation day of December 31, the doctor told Xiao Yang that even if the sperm retrieval failed on the same day, he could give up the cycle and choose another option later. Daily frozen sperm for assisted pregnancy. Xiao Yang put down the burden of thoughts and successfully retained semen. After the semen was taken out, the staff began to resuscitate the eggs. A total of 17 of the 21 frozen eggs survived. On January 3 this year, 2 embryos were transplanted and 2 were cryopreserved. Afterwards, the couple successfully became pregnant with a single child, and there were no abnormalities during prenatal check-ups on time. On September 22 this year, Xiao Li gave birth to a healthy baby girl by cesarean section, weighing 3,380 kilograms.
Compared with traditional slow freezing methods, vitrification causes significantly less damage to oocytes and embryos. Therefore, the method of vitrification of eggs is currently being gradually promoted at home and abroad.
