Does having sex before marriage mean you have a weak concept of chastity?
Teachers from Fujian Institute of Education recently conducted a survey on "college students' attitudes toward marriage, love, and sex." The survey results show that 92% of people approve of premarital sex. The survey also concluded that current college students have a weak concept of chastity, and schools should strengthen education on correct sexual concepts.
Can premarital sex be simply equated with a weak concept of chastity? The subjects of this survey were only 192 college students, and the scope of the survey was only limited to four universities in Fuzhou. Such a hasty survey leads to the conclusion that "college students have a weak concept of chastity." Can the 20 million college students in our country agree? This investigation obviously has no intention of seeking truth from facts and is intended to sensationalize.
Furthermore, even if 92% of these 192 students approve of premarital sex, we cannot recklessly conclude that others have a weak concept of chastity, let alone 20 million college students. The concept of chastity is a very abstract concept. With the development of the times, people continue to give it new connotations. The Tang Dynasty published the book "The Analects of Women", which put forward systematic regulations on women's behavior. Scholars in the Song Dynasty advocated "preserving natural principles and destroying human nature", and put forward in "Jin Si Yuan" that "starving to death is a small matter, but losing one's virginity is a big matter". After the Ming and Qing dynasties, widows were not only praised for their observance of virtue, but also cruel cases of husbands sacrificing themselves appeared constantly. It can be seen that the traditional concept of chastity kills human nature and deprives women of their sexual rights. It is a spiritual shackles that has been placed on women for thousands of years. With the development of the times, people's thoughts and values have diversified, social culture and public opinion atmosphere have become relatively tolerant, and people's concept of chastity has also changed accordingly: sex based on love and with the promise of marriage is Beautiful and pure, sex is not dirty, it is even a necessity for relationships.
In the final analysis, the presence or absence of "sexual behavior" cannot be used as the only criterion for considering "chastity". Just because someone has had sex before marriage does not mean that her concept of chastity is weak, and someone who has not had sex before marriage does not mean that her concept of chastity is strong. In the Hong Kong version of "Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai", Zhu Yingtai had premarital sex with Liang Shanbo in order to escape from marriage. However, no one accused "Zhu Yingtai" of having a weak view of chastity. On the contrary, most people who watched it Will be moved. Therefore, the key to the question is whether the "sexual behavior" of men and women is based on the physiological needs of "hedonism" or is a natural product of emotional development. If it is the former, of course we are firmly opposed to it. If it's the latter, then there's nothing wrong with that. You can't easily label people as having a "weak view of chastity" and point fingers at others on a moral level.
Of course, I am not advocating premarital sex. On the contrary, I also want to warn college students to be cautious about "premarital sex." This is a major matter related to a person's lifelong happiness. However, we also oppose the "chastity concept" of using "premarital sex" as an excuse, claiming to be a moral guardian, and frequently using "premarital sex" to accuse others. In the contemporary cultural context of tolerance, this is not only inappropriate, but may also cause negative social effects.
